Our Story
It’s a pretty simple story really, Janie is a great home cook and Jonathan loves helping by prepping things to make it easier in the kitchen (and by eating Janie’s meals of course).
In 2004 with three hungry boys to feed we were doing a lot of meals, but couldn’t find a decent wooden cutting board. One that we would like in our kitchen…, stylish, easy on our knives, and one which would always look great even after 10 years
of use. We wanted a board that could sit on our benchtop and our friends would say, Wow! that looks great where can I find one?!
We couldn’t find what we wanted, so we set about designing and developing our own range for our small family business, Wild Oats Housewares. It was important we develop boards that had a distinct design element borne out of beautiful quality, stylish design and practicality.
We loved wood and both of us have a strong environmentally aware focus, so it was a natural progression for us to use wood as our raw material. Acacia wood was a perfect find because the grain has rich, vivid hues and a natural resilience to water, with anti-bacterial properties.
Once we had developed our first board we couldn’t stop and now we have a range of boards, bowls and utensils.
We are always developing new ideas, so please keep a look out for our new designs through our website or via Instagram.
We are a ‘Brand for Good’, meaning that we donate to worthy causes which make sense for the Wild Wood brand. The two key ways we donate (every month) is via B1G1 and One Tree Planted.
